Loading & Unloading at the new home: working with your mover
Loading:
Ask to see the weight ticket before the mover begins to load your things. This should be the empty truck weight or "tare weight."
Make sure the mover places a numbered tag on each item and each item is recorded on the inventory sheet.  Go into the truck and check off each item if necessary.
You can follow the truck to the nearest weighing station and get the "gross weight." (Gross weight - tare weight) equals the weight you pay for.
Unloading:
Stand by the truck, use the inventory list and check off each item as it is unloaded. This is the best time to identify missing items.
Check fragile items and valuables before the mover leaves.
Don't sign and don't pay until you are sure all your items were delivered in good condition.
